Colloquial; the spoken word.

The people came out onto the streets and they raised their voices and spoke. What has been said has been said, what is yet to be done we shall wait for the future to bring. Colloquial an exhibition of images made in Cairo throughout 2002 until 2006, has been shown in Cairo and Kuala Lumpur and is available as a limited edition hand made book, for more on the work please visit my website on www.nicolazammit.net
Sending my love to the streets and people that warmly welcomed me, took me as part of the family, cooked for me and I in turn cooked for them, we drank tea and ate together, laughed and cried together, my thoughts are with you all now as you are looking for a brighter future for your wonderful country.
When I asked my friend one day how she felt about her city Cairo, she replied, "How can a mother express her feelings for her child in words, so much love, it is the same for this city."

Images made in the city of Cairo 2002-2006 and are also available as limited edition prints.

Vrikshasan

Vrikshasan- Tree Pose
incorporates 3 lines of energy, emitting from the centre outwards. One line proceeds down the straight leg, another extends up the spine and out the finger tips and the thrid moves outward through the bent leg.
making trees in concrete places, sending roots down into the earth and branches up to the sky, reaching reaching to find the sun.

Vrikshasan helps to focus the mind and cultivate concentration, to obtain rootedness and the firmness of a tree. It improves balance and co-ordination, strengthens and tones the leg muscles, ankles and feet, improves flexibility in the knees and hips.
Lets all be trees, love trees, be trees.

What then is a tree?

The sun is our soul, the moon our mind, so what then is a tree? Spreading its roots deep into the earth, spreading its branches up towards the sun, supporting the world and giving life. To me a tree is a friend with no conditions, always there in the same place, sometimes with different clothes on or even naked, sometimes bearing fruit or flowers, always giving, always there.

"What did the tree learn from the earth? To be able to talk with the sky." Pablo Neruda

The trees I hugged

At any given moment in time, nature is unflolding around you and within you. Receive the energies from the earth, flowers and trees, stars and bees......................all creatures in oneness and awareness of each other in harmony and peace.

I Dreamt Of Trees

'Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.' Lao Tzu

We all have to take responsibility for the health of our earth, of the nature that nourishes us, that allows us to breath our life giving breath. Small steps through the consumerist jungle can make a difference, switch off any power that isn't being used, recycle everything you can, stop using plastic bags as much as possible, cut that nice hot shower down by just a few minutes, think about what you really need and what you don't, what it is that truly makes you happy, you might find that its not in a sparkling shopping centre, and take time out to go hug a tree.

huuuuuug huuuuuug huuuuuuuuuuuug awhhhhhhph I can't get my arms round this one, huuuuuuuuuuuuug.

"I am especially encouraged to see that thinking of consumerism as an end itself seems to be giving way to an appreciation that we humans must conserve the earths resources." His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

No blogging from me for the next few weeks, I am off camping to hug lots and lots of trees!!

Images made in Malawi, Africa and are part of the series, 'Sanctum.'

Electric Butterfly

With every beat of its wings, it changed the direction of the air.
Sometimes every beat came easily with grace, and there were times when every beat was a struggle.
We can all be hero's
be kind
find compassion in your heart
open your heart as the lotus flower blooms
surrendering to Mother Earth.
